    Actually, it is. …
Actually, it is. The one major problem with the Canon is its 1920×1080 high resolution format. It’s a huge battery drain, uses up a lot of storage space, and requires a very powerful computer to edit the footage.

A 1280×720 resolution camcorder however can still deliver an excellent picture, will have a longer battery life, use less storage space, and doesn’t require a super computer to edit the footage.

Unfortunately, the Sanyo’s picture quality ruined any chance it had to be a contender.

    Ok thanks for that, …
Ok thanks for that, the Panasonic SDR-H250 has 3CCD’s and optical image stabilisation so probably a safer bet in that case.

    Everybody wants to …
Everybody wants to do skateboarding videos… :)
I’d never recommend the Sanyo. The auto-focus is way too unstable and can easily ruin your shots.

I’ve never tried the Panasonic, so I have no idea how good it really is.

    Hi there, I am …
Hi there, I am trying to decide between buying the Panasonic SDR-H250 (with 30GB HDD, Standard definition) and the Sanyo VPC-TH1. Do you think it’s best to put up with the oversaturation of the Sanyo or stick to standard definition? My previous camera was a MiniDV JVC-GRD250 which broke. a quick reply would be appreciated, thanks

    Find a store that …
Find a store that has powered demos of both camcorders, and bring two Class 4 (minimum) memory cards with you. Record some footage at maximum quality in the store, bring the cards home, and compare them on your computer. This is the only way to get a clear picture of the FH1’s actual performance.

You can even compare the footage with my YouTube video as long as you disregard the frame rate, which YouTube still can’t handle properly.

    camcorderinfo d c …
camcorderinfo d c is a decent site for reviews, although they can be a bit anal at times with their testing procedures, such as not bothering testing out the HF200’s low light capabilities in manual mode, which would have resulted in a different outcome.

As for the computer requirements problem, that’s why I tested out a 720p camcorder. That format would have made it possible to edit HD footage on a netbook! But alas, the picture quality was beyond horrible on the Sanyo. Maybe another brand?

    I’ve seen people …
I’ve seen people rave over the video quality of Sanyo’s in the past few years (probably from there prosumer line), so I will indeed have a look at the FH1 in store.

On the other hand, the HF200 looks to be in good standings against its competitors, so I just might get it ;)
Thanks for your help, your videos are great :)
    Cheers,

    Michael

    Hi. I am seriously …
Hi. I am seriously considering buying the Vixia but then i heard the end part of the review. The part of not having a powerful computer can affect the quality of the imported video. I do not have a very powerful laptop and I was wondering if you have any suggestions for me. Loved the review and I could NOT stop laughing when you used the Xacti as a doorstop. Also, do you know of any good review websites that you would suggest for a friend? Quick response appreciated. Thank You.

    Unless you see …
Unless you see actual high definition footage from the Sanyo FH1 to help you make a clear decision, I’d say stick with the Canon.

Sanyo’s specifications worry me a bit. Both cameras have the same resolution, record at 60 frames per second and at 24 Mbps, and occupy the same amount of storage space on the memory card.

But the Canon is 1080i while the Sanyo is 1080p. Shouldn’t the files on the Sanyo be TWICE as large as the files on the Canon?

Or am I missing something here?

    Hey! Great review! …
Hey! Great review! The Canon really looks kickass! I was debating over getting the Canon SX1 or the HF200 (I need something for HD recording mainly), but then I saw the new Sanyo 1080p Camcorder (VPC-FH1). Have you tried that one out? Seeing Sanyo’s lack of professionalism from what I saw in your video, do you think I should just stick with getting the HF200?

Fisheye, yes. Standard thread, 37 mm diameter.

External microphone, no. There wasn’t even a headphone output on the thing! Talk about cheap!
