Why would you not? Pay for what you eat and they pay for what they eat. Tell the server when he or she first approaches your table that you NEED a separate check for you and the person you're with (indicate who that is). You could even embellish your request and make it seem more plausible, by saying you'll want a receipt -- as if you were putting your particular meals on an expense account. If the server gives you a hard time, you can either ask for the manager and straighten things out, or get up and walk. If there's a party of eight, and two people order "extras", like cocktails and dessert, and the others don't, then those two people should be responsible. I would insist on separate checks.
