Open your window while you are in. It takes time to get rid of smell. I had that problem once. I used LUSH and Neal's Yard's products to get rid of the smell. It is costly but it worked very well. It does take some time.
References :
My experience

Joss sticks wont work as the smell is too strong. Light a few highly scented candles -use both in the kitchen and the living areas.Keep them burning for as long as possible. This works for us.Good luck!
References :
Use a spray like Oust or Febreeze.

Put some lemon peel, cinnamon sticks, cloves apple pieces in a small pan with water. Let is simmer and it will create a nice smell. Don't leave it unattended so that it doesn't burn down too much. Keep adding water.

Open your windows and let the air blow through your house. If you have kitchen curtains, wash them.
