What percentage of the bill is too much to tip when dining out?
The waitress will take even a $1000 tip, go or it !!!

don’t think there is to much if the service was fantastic.

A lot has to do with the service. Poor service constitutes what ever you feel you want to leave that sends a message. If you are ignored, server not coming back to check on quality of food, your needs or requirements, (like you might have a show or concert to make at a certain time so be sure to inform them of that) etc. Slow service where it takes too long and the server isn’t that busy from what is noticed. Chatting with others instead of supplying you service like other workers, customers. You count in this equation from the time you enter until the time you leave. 10% fair service, 15% good service, 20% or more excellent service. However the rules keep changing but good civility never is replaced by poor manners. Always stay classy in handling of the staff, and some times the kitchen, other workers might be at fault for the problem. Never assume any wrong doing. Just be observant……I hope that helps in your question…….

it totally depends on the service and the food (the wait-person is responsible for the quality of the food. if they think it doesn’t pass muster, they should have the cook make a better one). if there are any mistakes on the order - that’s the wait-person’s fault.
i’ve tipped anywhere from -1cent to 50$. it totally depends on the quality of the waitstaff. i’ve only done -1 cent twice (put 1 cent less than the exact change for the meal on the tray, and walk out.).
if the service is offensively awful, just walk out on the bill. i’ve done that twice, and they totally deserved it.
anyway, there’s no such thing as too much, but if you aren’t amazed by the service, anything over 10% is too much.

I keep it around 20% but it really depends on the service provided. If it’s exceptional, go a little higher. Large groups are generally expected to tip higher but sometimes it’s included in the price.

i never go by the percentage unless the waitress/waiter is completley unbearable. we went out last night and the waitress was sweet took my mom and sister. my sister asked for no green onions on her salad. we got our food…no green onions but my sister started freaking out because there were red onions. and she wouldnt eat it the waitress apologized as if it was her fault and my sister let her take the fall. she was acting like a brat. the waitress was really cool about it and we left her a $25.00 tip for a $70 bill. i kinda wanted to vent about last night haha. but i dont tip by percentage. the really good waiters can get the shit end of the stick that way

If you’re just an average person, I think the normal range is between 15 - 25%.
But if you’re famous and fabulously rich, I think no one could possibly expect more than a 100%. I remember reading a PEOPLE or LIFE article on celebrities who tip 100%. I thought that was a great way to build good will.

well its suppose to 10% of the bill, if you give anything more good for you.

I guess it all depends on the service…
Tip 15% of the overall bill, minus the tax, in most cases. Depending on the service, 15%-20% is the common range.
Tip an extra 5% (a total of 20%) if the restaurant is a highly rated establishment or if a large party is dining and the gratuity is not automatically added to the tab.
Add the gratuity to the overall bill, which includes alcohol but does not include tax.
Consider scribbling a note on your check if you wish to acknowledge someone on the staff who went out of his way for you.
Leave a lesser tip if you are unhappy with the service. A word with the server, in addition, is also appropriate.
I hope this answers your question! Goodluck!
sincerely,
me

Anything over 10% is my view.

No such thing. I am a server, and my heart just sings when I get over 20%. I also tip 25% when I go out to make up for the people that don’t tip well.
Wow, Courtney, you are a piece of work.

it should be 10 % so say the bill came up to 70 you would leave 7 get it x

you suppose to tip 15-20% of bill
but you no what tip as you think fit

10% is what the senior citizens tip and think is acceptable. Well, We don’t live in the 50’s and 60’s anymore. Prices have gone up for everything, and the acceptable minimum tip has increased as well. When a server gets less than 15%, we are getting stiffed, if we gave good service. 20% is the norm for great service, and some people are just cheap. If you can’t tip that, then don’t go to a sit down restaurant and waste our time. There is no such thing as tipping too much.
