What is proper etiquette while dining out?

When two people go out to dinner, what are some good practices to get into so that I am having proper etiquette?

start w/ the utensils outside going in. Never cut all your food at once, cut one small piece, put down your knife and eat the piece. Never reach across, never chew w/ your mouth open, never eat too fast , always put your napkin in your lap. when you are done w/ dinner, you put the utenstils at the 4:00 so that the server knows to take your plate. Then put the napkin on the chair when you are ready to leave. Two other tips - always turn off your cell phone during dinner, and also tipping is customarily 15-20%. Good luck!

Place your napkin in your lap before the meal begins. If there is flatware for each course and you aren’t sure which to use, the safest bet is to start at the outside and work your way in toward the plate. Also, after you use your butter knife, place it horizontally across the top of your dinner plate.

Depends on the restaurant, but, the norm would be to be polite, not act like that is there only source of a living, they are human and trying to make a living. Just be pleasant, and say, "thank you", and be yourself…but, always be polite, it may be their only source of income, and might have other mouths to feed…just don’t look down on them.

When you first get to the restaurant, you should wait to be served, or wait until it is your turn if there are other people in line.
Once at the time, sit straight, make sure your hands are to the side, make sure you don’t talk too loud so you don’t interrupt other customers and make sure you have good clean clothes on or otherwise everyone will be staring directly at you.
