my daughter is almost 17 months. she’s a great baby/toddler. she plays great on her own at home when needed…but when i grocery shop or other errands when she’s a little confined, i can’t seem to keep her occupied. i do realize this is difficult with a child, but i was hoping to find some tips from parents. i take her after she’s eaten and not tired. i try snacks, toys, stickers etc. any advice would help!
Keep her involved in what you are doing, if she is participating, she will be less likely to get cranky. When you are grocery shopping, have her pick out some groceries and hold the list. Good luck, my 17 month old son likes to get into everything and is quite hard to keep occupied!
My son just turned 17 months this Feb.22. I bought a cloth mat that goes into the shopping cart (from babies ‘r’ us) and it has toys attached to it. It really keeps Cameron busy. Other times when I notice that he’s getting fidgety, I ask him to help me shop and I say "can you get 1 apple?" He will get one and laugh. I say "put it in the bag for mommy" and he does so. I think this way it keeps him occupied and also helps him to learn at the same time. Hope this helps you.

i would offer two suggestions…one has been already said that is to let her "help" you shop. toddlers love to be helpers. let her put stuff in the cart or help pick out certain things. give her two choices that you would be okay with and let her pick one. you can even use this time to talk about different healthy options. my second suggestion (which i will most likely get blasted for even saying but i’m a real mom talking to a real mom) is if you have a ipod or some other device with games on it allow her to play. my son started playing with my ipod touch when he was about that age and he loves it. i do not allow him to play all of the time but, when i need a minute to concentrate (in a store or in the car) i will allow him to play. they have great games for kids on itunes and on phone companies. good luck and just know it gets worse! when your daughter is 3 and into everything the shopping really gets fun! but, they grow up and then cost ya more money so enjoy her while she is little!
