Why did my lights in the kitchen and dining suddenly go out?

We were eating dinner tonight and the lights in both the kitchen and dining room suddenly went out. The outlets all work. I checked my breaker box and nothing is tripped. I checked the G?? outlets for a tripped one and can’t find one. Not sure what to do…

Test and reset any ground fault outlets in the rooms, look where each appliance is plugged in to make sure you don’t miss one. Also trip and rest the circuit breakers for both rooms. Then check other breakers, some electricians will put outlets for room(s) and lights on different circuits. This way if something goes wrong you either have lightsworking, or outlets working which you could plug in a light.

Next look for gfci outlets in other rooms, even closets and attics. Sometimes people will install a gfci outlet somewhere in between the breaker box and the lights/outlets. This is a cheap way to comply with building code.

Your at the restaurant eating already like into the entree and loud stinky rude people get sat right next to you?

I’ll tell ya what *we* did. For our parents’ 59th anniversary dinner, my sister and I took them to O’Charleys. There was a section of the restaurant where they had placed a group of probably 20 people. If you’ve been to O’Charley’s, you know there is a section divider with several "open windows" built into the dividers. The group of people weren’t boisterous, they were freakin’ LOUD - talking and laughing as if they were at a bar, trying to talk over loud music.

My dad was very put out, and I asked the waitress if she could either move US or ask the other party to quiet down. She looked at me like she didn’t hear me correctly. I told her the group was truly distracting and annoying. Still, got a look like ,,,, uh, well ,,,, um ,,,,

I asked her if she could bring a manager over, since she didn’t seem able to put 2+2 together. Someone else came over a few minutes later, we asked her the same thing, she said she would talk to a manager (again, as if we were being overly sensitive to the other restaurant patrons).

In the next few minutes, the loud, obnoxious group began receiving their food, which thankfully engaged their mouths in something other than talking ungodly so loud. By the time a manager came by, they were pretty much down to a normal noise level, and my dad had calmed down. But my sister and I did make a point of telling the manager how loud the group had been, and that it was my folks’ 59th anniversary. All was well from then on. I dont’ remember if they comped us anything, seems like they offered us a choice of dessert for their anniversary.

After my sister got back home, she contacted the O’Charley’s corporate office and explained what had happened. They did send her meal tickets for my folks (something like $40 worth).

I’m not one to normally ask anyone to lower their voices in a restaurant, but this was above and beyond ANYTHING I had ever been through. And for the record, the people at the table behind us told us that the obnoxious group had been that loud for awhile before we had sat down. I can’t believe *they* didn’t say something, because we could tell they were not happy about the noise.

I want to throw a dinner theater banquet kinda thing for charity?

Where can I find food in bulk for cheap? For example: chicken, pasta, etc?

Costco/Price Smart, Wallmart useually has a good price on bulk foods as well. If it’s for charity you can try talking to store managers at your useual market and ask them if they could donate food to help with this, many chain stores are perfectly willing to help if they believe in your charity.

Has anyone been to Minar grills restaurant on chingford road in walthamstow, if so could you tell me about your experience and whether its worth visit cant find many reviews online.

It is new and has very friendly and expert staff, all experts in halal cuisine. Very fine chicken steaks with creamy sauce and the spicy chips are superb. The place has seperate family rooms and sofas. The Moroccan food is good and the place is clean.

When dining out with a group which scenario is best when it comes to payment?

Scenario: There are 3 married couples (6 people) eating at a restaurant. We are celebrating one person’s birthday. When the bill comes out how should payment be divided?

A) Should we divide the bill by 5?
B) Should we divide the bill by 4 - therefore treating the birthday person and their significant other?

For the sake of argument, everybody ordered the same thing. Therefore, nobody spent more than another person.

It would depend on how the plans were arranged. If you were invited by the birthday person or their spouse then I would divide the bill evenly among everyone. If it was yourself or the other couple that invited the birthday couple out I would divide it by 2 and treat them.

When family comes from out of town, am I supposed to pay for everything, everyday? Dining out, Entertainment?

Things like dining out everyday… going to places like six flags for their family and ours… they seem to want to be entertained everyday — I work for myself and they feel my schedule is open to entertain and pay for everything. What is the proper etiquette
Thank you for the answers so far… they are helpful. Just to add a bit, this was a trip they planned themselves a month ago. The timing was bad for us, but it was the only time they could come for a long time.

We don’t mind them staying here. Hanging around the house — do a few things around town with us, eating every meal at our home. We are fine with all of that. It is just the profit center stuff like, amusement parks, dining out, movies…etc. They even asked us to pay for their hotel on the way up and the way down. They drove here.

The proper thing is for your visiting family members to work these things out with you in advance. If you have the space, it would be nice for you to offer to let them stay at your home for the duration of the visit, and maybe provide an occasional at-home meal. Any expenses are their responsibility–not yours.

I’ve heard it suggested that you get a small photo album and fill it with various photos of family and friends. Might keep them entertained for a reasonable amount of time, plus you can keep coming back to it, and also change the photos.
