Tips on entertaining a two year old?

I am babysitting a two year old girl tomorrow, for eight hours while her mom is at work. The longest I’ve had Addison before is about three hours. She has a fairly short attention span, and gets bored quickly. What can I do to keep her entertained for eight hours? She loves My Little Pony’s, Littlest Pet Shop, etc. and adores being outside if that helps at all. Thanks!

Take her for a walk if it is nice. Read books, play games, throw balls. Play with her toys. Putting music on and dance. Sing songs. Bubbles are entertaining. Coloring too. But be careful she only colors the paper and not the floor, walls or herself.

what is proper when dining out and one couple has a gift certificate?

You are about as clear as mud, more details would have helped.

If they have a certificate it may be just for them and it would be rude for them to invite you and expect you to pay your own way.

It might be for both couples and you graciously accept them for inviting you.

If they are picking up the bill it would be extremely rude to order the most expensive meal on the menu, They may be going to have a reasonably good steak dinner ($20.00 per-head) and it would be ill mannered to order lobster at $30.00 per head.

As a guest you go by their guideline of a beer first and then a bottle of wine.

If it is you who has the certificate it would be very ill mannered to invite them without telling them it was for you and your partner and the other couple would have to pay their own way.

You could offer for the meals for both to be tallied up, the value of the certificate deducted and divy up the remainder, or if they are your guests you should clearly let them know that you will pick up the bill.

If the certificate is yours you suggest your dinner plan, and discuss it.

How many of you guys actually read and believe restaurant reviews?

If it’s bad do you still give the restaurant a try? one really bad review out of many good/moderate ones which ones do you believe the good or bad? How many of you avidly review on sites like Yelp and why do you do it?

I never rely on reviews. I either go to places that friends or family suggests or just by chance walking by a quaint restaurant and walk in without a reservation. I like to frequent Mom and Pop restaurants. It seems the food is always tastier and the atmosphere is friendlier.

What is the top of dining table made out of?

It’s a wood dining table. The top appears to be wood, but, it’s almost like plastic. It doesn’t matter how wet it gets on the top, nothing ruins it. Harsh cleaners have never messed it up. What is the top made out of?

Take a look at an edge of the table, perhaps where the table leaf would go…if you see a dark brown, or black edge right there at the top, probably about 3/32" thick…then I’d say you’ve got a laminate surface. HPL (aka laminate, or sometimes referred to as ‘formica’, like most facial tissue is referred to as ‘kleenex’, whether they made it or not) has been used for years on tables, countertops, and in recent years, has become very popular on flooring. It’s easy to clean, hard to damage, though it will show slight abrasion marks.

There is one thing you need to be cautious of, and that’s putting something too hot on it. You wouldn’t hurt the laminate itself by putting a hot pot of mashed potatoes on it, but it could loosen the adhesive holding the laminate to the core material, hehehe.

Reviews for the restaurant Ninja in NYC?

I am planning to go into to New York City for my 14th birthday party, and I am looking in to going to the restaurant Ninja. I want the restaurant to be unique and fun, and it seems like ninja would be a good place. If anyone has been there, can you please give me some reviews on the food/ experience, and whether or not it would be good for 14 year old girls. Thanks!

Tips for entertaining infants?

At my church’s summer program, my friend and I have decided to volunteer working with the infants. The older kids actually do a program, but we will be caring for infants who’s parents are busy volunteering with their other children. Some people have told us not to work with the infants because it can be a long day, but after some thought we decided to give it a try. We both love babies and are good with them. However, since we will be in the room for 3 hours at a time, some of the babies (ages 0-2years) will be bored or wanting their parents. What are some fun games to play with the babies so both me, and the infants stay entertained? I don’t just want to watch them play with toys, is there any good, simple things for my friend and I to do with them? Thanks!

Any handplay songs that babies can watch and try to imitate are good. Itsy-bitsy Spider, Little Bunny Foo Foo, and others. Babies also love to watch you sing and sign the alphabet. Puppets can be fun, too! And of course, there’s always the option of popping a colorful DVD into a player and letting them watch. Even babies like to watch happy-sounding, colorful cartoons.
